Liam walked into the common room still laughing. Thankfully it was mostly empty. It was later in the day, but most people were still in classes, except for the few upperclassman who had free periods like him. He took off his cloak, because he was still feeling a bit warm from all the excitement. He also removed his tie and partially unbuttoned his shirt and rolled up his sleeves. Sinking into the couch across from the fire, though close enough to the window to feel the cool breeze, he placed his feet at the table and crossed his arms.
What an interesting day, he thought. His mind kept wandering back to his friend and his new indecent companion, and he kept smiling devilishly.

Truthfully, Nessie should have been in class, but she hated History of Magic and had made a habit of skipping it as often as she thought she could get away with. Her intention had been to use this time for a much-needed nap, but, courtesy of the enchanted clock she'd bought on a recent trip to Knockturn Alley, she'd found that sleep alluded her. After a bit of grumbling about her misfortune, Nessie finally decided she could at least venture into the common room to see who else was free at this time. People always made things more interesting.
Raking her hands through her hair, Nessie peeked at her reflection to make sure she didn't look awful. Naps had a way of leaving their mark. Mussed hair or marks left from wrinkled sheets. Fortunately, she seemed free of any of these, but that was probably because she hadn't been able to relax. She was, however, clad only in a pair or pajama pants and a sports bra. Nessie shed her uniform at every opportunity. For a moment, she wonder whether she ought to put more clothes on, but she figured all the important things were covered, so she headed down to the common room.
There weren't a lot of people there, and there were even fewer people that she felt particularly inclined to speak to. Fortunately, she spied Liam the couch across from the fire. Nessie crossed the room quietly and piled onto the couch beside him without bothering to wait for an invitation. "You looked lonely," she announced, propping her slipper-clad feet onto the table next to his.

Liam noticed Nessie walk out of the girl's dorm and couldn't help but watch her out of the corner of his eye. What a happy coincidence, he thought, since he had just thought of her earlier today when he was in the presence of Brett. He couldn't help but think that maybe her company was like karma giving back because he had just been such a good friend.
"Really? I thought I looked quite happy." he retorted raising his eyebrow. But if she insisted that he was lonely and came to keep him company, he had no quarrels about that. "Appreciate the company though." He added so she wouldn't leave.
He thought back to James and Brett. He turned to Nessie, absolutely gleeful, "You know, I think our best friends are shagging in the trophy room."
Man, what a day.

Insisting someone was lonely was generally the best way to make it acceptable to break in on their private time. So when Liam negated her statement, Nessie briefly considered finding someone who was, in fact, lonely. But Liam assured her that he appreciated her company and she offered him a sideways grin. "Being happy doesn't mean you're not lonely," she told him. Plenty of people considered themselves happy when they were lonely. "But it's a good thing you appreciate me. Because you'd have been stuck with me either way." There was no need to let on to the fact that she would actually have left.
Nessie's attention focused on the fire and she was almost mesmerized by the flames when she registered what Liam had just said. She couldn't help but giggle. Brett had just been complaining about the length of time it had been since she'd gotten any. "Well good for them," she cheered. "You didn't bug the room?" It wasn't that she was particularly interested in seeing Brett have sex. She just liked the idea of living vicariously through her friend, and she was impatient enough not to want to wait for Brett to share the details with her.
After a moment of consideration, she realized that Liam must, in fact, have given up the opportunity to either shag Brett himself or have a threesome, and the idea had her offering him a sympathetic smile. "You sure you're not lonely? Because it seems to me James is having all the fun you could have been having this afternoon..."

That was actually a good point. Bugging the room. "Darn Nessie, where were you and your brilliant suggestions earlier?" Liam complained in mock dismay. Of course it would have never occurred to him before and he wasn't really sure what he would do with that information - unless James said something incredibly funny during the sex, and then Liam would simply never let that die.
Nessie made a point, but he didn't want her to feel sorry for him. That would make him feel like a bit of loser, and he was riding a very happy buzz at the moment. "Yeah well, I have the self satisfaction of being the absolute greatest friend ever." He reasoned.
"Besides, I have a thing for brunettes." He added, giving her a wink. Although, as a teenage boy, it was impossible not to be tempted by any cute girl who claimed not to be wearing underwear. "So, I think I'm better off here." He added, with his characteristic charming smile.

"I was trying to sleep," she informed him. "Where were you when I needed someone to tire me out?" She batted her eyelashes at him and scooted closer. There was rarely a time when she said something without an air of sexual suggestion, and Nessie generally didn't bother wondering whether it would bother anyone. This was no different. Liam was a guy. Surely he wouldn't protest to a little flirtation.
She couldn't help but snort at the idea that he was satisfied with giving his friend the chance to get laid. "Right. The greatest friend ever. Do you ever get laid? Or do you run around leaving that pleasure for other people?" she teased. She was sure he got laid. And she was equally as sure that she was glad he'd left James with Brett. It gave her good company and a little fun, and since she couldn't sleep, this was certainly preferable.
The idea that he preferred brunettes made her laugh again. "Liam, you're a guy. I'm pretty sure you prefer whatever type of single girl is lurking around you at the moment." She offered him a crooked grin and turned to prop her feet on the opposite side of his. The movement shifted her so that her bum was resting against his legs. Physical contact made just about any situation more comfortable for Nessie. "I hope you don't have any plans," she commented, "Because I don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon."

Tire her out? It was getting warm again and Liam dared to hope. Although Liam was slightly offended about her supposing if he ever got laid. Of course he got laid. Maybe not as often as he would've liked. He scoffed in return, trying to maintain good humor. "Maybe it's more indicative of how often I get laid that I can afford to give one to the team." He reasoned.
And he was going to say something along the lines of, sure, he was a guy, and single girls lurking were nice, but that something about brunettes made it special, but she effectively distracted him by resting her legs across him.
Because I don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon.
Liam raised his eyebrows. "Well in that case ..." With one arm across her back and one arm under her knees, Liam lifted her in one swift motion onto his lap. "You should be more comfortable." he said, smiling and sitting up straighter so that their faces were inches apart.

James burst into the common room, Brett in tow, grinning smugly in a way only sex can make a man. He scoured the common room, intent on telling Liam all about his sexual prowess. And what luck! There he was on the couch.
He practically dragged Brett across the room toward the fireplace, immediately plopping down on the couch next to Liam, paying no mind to the fact that he was nose-to-nose with Nessie — an unimportant detail, apparently. James rested his legs on the table in front of them, folding his arms behind his head and leaned back, grinning at the ceiling for a few moments before turning to glance at the two out of the corner of his eye, at this point deciding to try to be casual.
"Oh, Liam, Nessie. I didn't see you there," he lied, and mentally pat himself on the back for being so smooth. "It's a great day, isn't it? Though a bit hot, if you know what I mean." He grinned to himself and returned his gaze to the ceiling after prodding Liam a bit with his elbow, utter glee pouring out of every pore in his body.
James Potter, master of subtlety.

Liam caught the James bursting into the common room out of the corner of his eye, and watched in disbelief as his friend sat down next to him, apparently unaware that Liam had an attractive girl (already in her bra) in his arms and on his lap. James prattled off happily, but Liam stared with an expression of horror, even when James nudged him with his elbow. Really mate, really?
"James." Liam said slowly. "What the actual fuck are you doing?"
This couldn't be happening, not after being such a good friend.

Things had finally started to get interesting. Nessie was comfortably settled on Liam's lap, close enough to feel the warmth of his breath, and she was fully prepared to take advantage of the situation when James burst into the common room. If he had a shred of decency about him, he would've made his way to another couch or even up to the dorms. But, as luck would have it, he plopped down on the couch right beside them. Nessie's lips settled into a pout and she let out a huff. "Well don't you two reek of sex," she muttered by way of greeting. She really wanted to say something much more like what Liam had told his friend, but she settled for "It is hot, and your general body heat is impossibly annoying. What are the chances you'd find a new seat?" She wasn't annoyed with Brett, so she didn't bother making a comment toward her friend just yet.

James practically pulled Brett into the common room. Of course she would have liked to give Nessie the run down, but when she saw Nessie on Liam's lap, she was about to throw her friend a thumbs up and sneak upstairs. James had other plans it seemed as he plopped down on the couch with them and Brett did a face palm, though he was glowing and that made her rather proud of herself.
Brett didn't sit and didn't redo the top few buttons of her shirt even though they were undone. "James you are a total idiot." She said. He might have just become her friends with benefits but that didn't keep her from telling the truth. Plus, she liked Nessie and Liam and figured they deserved to get it on. To herself she mumbled, "We totally should have had a second round." They certainly had time and then all four of them would have sex details to share.
Brett sighed and sat in a nearby arm chair, from which she could lean over and give James a whack on the arm.

And all of a sudden, it became "Be Mad at James" day. He pulled his best puppy dog face as Brett smacked his arm, and he looked around, wondering just how he managed to make everyone mad in the full two seconds he'd been in the common room. It was only when Liam asked him what he was doing did he really survey the situation.
Liam was on the couch. Nessie was on his lap. She was also clad only in her bra, apparently deciding to forgo a shirt. Their faces were very close to each other, almost as though ...
James jumped off the couch immediately, eyes wide as reality sunk in. "Right. Well, I can see this is a bad time. I'll just be going now," he decided, and quickly turned around, managing to bash his head against the bottom of one of the torches in the room. He rubbed his forehead for the second time that day, blinked a couple of times to regain his vision, then grabbed Brett's hand and pulled her off her chair. "Brett, can't you see they're busy?" he muttered to her, as though she didn't already know, and attempted to drag her to the other side of the room.

Liam continued to stare at his friend, still holding Nessie who thankfully didn't leave out of anger or anything. He could almost see the gears in his friend's brain slowly turning, with occasion creaks along the way. He waited expectantly, knowing James was likely to get there eventually.
And when James practically leaped off the couch, Liam knew that reality sunk in. Although he was still bothered that the moment was utterly ruined, the fact that James ran into something, yet again, made him feel slightly better. He would've chalked it up to karma, but she didn't seem to be working well for him. Nessie was right - being a good person wasn't getting him laid.
When James was far enough away, he turned back to Nessie. "I am so sorry." he started apologetically. "But you see, no one else wanted to be his friend ..."

Brett sighed and shook her head. Finally though, things seemed to click for James and he leapt up and yanked her off her chair. "Oof," She grunted as he started to pull her away. Of course she knew they were busy, he was the one who didn't get it. Once they were at least on the other side of the common room she laughed lightly. "You aren't the brightest bulb in the shed James." Of course, he might not know what lightbulbs were, but in any case, she was correct.
Brett shook her head and ruffled his hair a little bit. Now what though? Their friends were alone again, and could probably start up again-- Nessie could totally pull that off. But what were Brett and James to do? Maybe they could go round two upstairs but that seemed risky, not that Brett minded a little risk. She walked her fingers up over his shoulder. "What now?"

Nessie was just starting to really get annoyed when James finally seemed to catch on to the fact that he was interrupting. The way he suddenly jumped up and practically dragged Brett away was almost comical, and by the time the two of them had made it out of earshot, Nessie was holding back laughter. She shook her head and finally let out the giggles she'd been trying to restrain when Liam apologized. Trying to catch her breath, she let herself lean against Liam's chest. It took her about a quarter of a second to get comfortable there and just another moment to take issue with that fact. "Yeah, I can see why they wouldn't be flocking to hang out with him," Nessie mumbled. A second later, she processed the fact that Liam smelled good and before she could think much more, she scrambled off of his lap. Resuming her seat beside him, she carefully placed her feet back on the table, careful that she wasn't quite touching him.
"Since they so rudely interrupted us, I think we should at least keep them from getting round two," Nessie announced. It sounded reasonable enough. Without waiting for a response, she twisted around to make sure the two of them hadn't managed to sneak upstairs. "Oi! Lovebirds! You ruined our entertainment. Come fix it!" Having more people around would surely put her at ease again.
