Brett loved the quidditch supply store. It was a fantastic sport after all, her sport. She wanted to go pro after school, even if it didn't seem too likely. Brett was a good beater, and she loved it. She was fast (her size helped with that) but still strong. She had tenacity, and that was her selling point.
She didn't really need anything here. Her broom was still good, as were her various body pads to protect herself. her club was in good shape... But what girl didn't love new accessories? She had some fresh warm socks with stripes in her bag and now she was at the rack of fingerless gloves. There were so many, in all different colors and styles and she was hard pressed to decide on one. Where was Nessie when you needed her? Though, she'd been a little un-Nessieish since the whole Liam fiasco. Brett wanted them to get it on and over with already.
Brett shifted her weight from one foot to the other, finally decided on a pair of hot pink ones with black stripes down the sides. She tried one on and fist bumped a mannequin with a smile.

James had crashed into a tree.
It wasn't his fault, he'd insisted. He was just flying around, testing the speed on his broom, as it wasn't often that he could really push it to its limit. As the speed cranked up, the scenery around him turned into a blur, a mix of green and brown and white that he could only vaguely see out of the corner of his eye. He leaned forward, trying to go just a bit faster, when a hint of red appeared out to the right of him. Just what it was, he never found out, because the moment he turned to get a better look, a tree jumped out at him and forced him to crash.
After a night at the hospital wing fixing broken bones and concussions, he was out on the streets at Diagon Alley, looking for a new broom (as his former one was in pieces too small to repair). Thankfully, his family placed a great deal of importance on Quidditch and was in no short supply of money, given the whole "saving the Wizarding World" thing, so he could afford the newest model, which claimed to go just that much faster.
As soon as he stepped foot into the store, another flash of red appeared out of the corner of his eye. He shook his head, hoping it wasn't brain damage, before taking a closer look and realizing that it was real: Brett was in the store as well. Deciding to have some fun, he quickly levitated a Keeper mask (a new invention after yet another Keeper died from a quaffle to the head) and placed it right behind her head.
James hid on the edge of the aisle, waiting for her to turn around and come face-to-face with a floating mask, hoping it would at least cause her to jump.

Brett grinned and turned around. Something was inches from her face and as such she let out a squeak and jumped backwards. It was thenm she saw it was a keepers mask that someone had levitated and she looked around the store and caught James's face. "You got me!" She said running over. She threw his arms around him.
"I heard about your accident, are you okay?" She asked. they weren't really dating, they were more than friends though so she figured she was entitled to worry about him a little bit. Brett patted his chest playfully. "They fix all your broken bones?" She said with a little smile. "Maybe you should buy a helmet." She said, knocking lightly on his head with her glove clad hand, the pair dangling from her wrist by a plastic tie.
Brett realized he must have been in here for a new broom, excellent. she loved broom shopping. Hers wasn't new, but she loved it. An oldie but a goodie.

When Brett jumped and squealed at the mask, James laughed, allowing the object to fall to the floor. And then she ran over to hug him, and he grinned wider, hugging her back, though he couldn't deny he was taken aback. Not by the hugging — they'd been much closer to each other than that — but by her reaction, immediately asking if he was okay. He was used to laughter and reminders of how idiotic he was to not pay attention to where he was going. She was concerned, however, and through his confusion he realized he appreciated the sentiment.
"Yeah, good as new," he promised, and when she rapped on his head, laughed again. "Though apparently they can't do anything about brain cells, so I've been told that a helmet would be a good idea from now on." He was only half-joking as he said it; though magic could solve many things, brain issues were often too advanced, and he'd had a few too many concussions over the years. The nurse had suggested a helmet. James wasn't hearing of it, however.
"What broom do you have?" he added, changing the subject. "I think I need a change from my old one. Something fast though."

Brett grinned at him and grabbed a helmet off the rack and pushed it onto his head. "You know they say endorphins increase your number of brain cells..." She winked playfully at him. They were usually all jokes and flirting these days and she didn't want to over step, but she did care about his head. He was fairly reckless and certainly not safety conscious.
"I have a Firebolt 2006," Brett said. "Its quick, but not as much as the new models of course." She shrugged. her family never had a lot of money and she was okay with a 6 year old broom. She'd gotten it when she started Hogwarts, it had been new then of course. But it cost an arm and a leg and was a great gift, and she had no money for something faster. As a beater though, speed wasn't as important as power and it was a sturdy broom. James, as a chaser, would probably be more interested in a fast broom. Hopefully he didn't test the limits of this one.
Brett realized there were so many sexual innuendos to be made about brooms and her past words already fit it some ways. She leaned against a wall of brooms and looked up at them. "I guess you should pick the one that will give you the best overall ride."

James arched his eyebrows at her comment, grinning and taking a step closer to her, helmet already doing its best to slide off his head. It was as though his body rejected any form of protection available for him. It was currently halfway off his head, covering his right ear. "Well, care to help me with that? Might take a little while until I get up to normal levels though," he pointed out, shrugging casually.
And then they got to talking about brooms, and his mind twisted all of her words into sexual innuendos. She had leaned up against a wall as she spoke, looking up at him with a feigned innocence that made him sure she knew exactly what she was saying, and he grinned just a bit wider at that knowledge.
So as she leaned back, he took a step forward, placing a hand on the wall, right next to her face. He leaned in close, unable to contain himself. Best overall ride? She was just begging for some action, he figured, eyes alight with his thoughts. "Already have, haven't I?" he pointed out, and used his other hand to run his fingers along her hips. Thankfully there weren't many people around — but quite frankly, it wouldn't have stopped him regardless.

Brett grinned at him and took the helmet off. "I'd love to help." They didn't have to have crazy sex. they'd just hope in a bed and get it on, nice and easy. "I like being on top, its no biggie." She assured him with another light wink. She wasn't always such a dirty flirt, but they were friends with benefits and now without Nessie's sex stories to live vicariously through, she needed some of her own. besides, on some level, she actually liked James and liked having sex with him. It was a great feeling.
He caught her innuendo about the brooms and she couldn't help but grin as he came over, all but pinning her to the wall, his fingers trailing down her hip. Brett leaned up and kissed him sweetly, her body pressing into his as she tried to get on her tip toes for a better position.
"Alright, so what will give you the second best ride?" She smirked, nodding at the wall of brooms. Brett was secretly glad that he considered her a good ride though.

When she kissed him, James kissed her back, smiling into her lips. But it was over too quick, and she was bringing the attention back to the broom search. He laughed and shook his head. "You're no fun," he insisted, quickly turning his grin into a pout, though even that lasted only a few seconds before being replaced by a new grin. He leaned in and pressed his lips against her forehead before pulling away and directing his attention to the brooms behind her.
There were hundreds of them, and he crossed his arms over his chest as he glanced around. One jumped out at him — towards the front of the store, in its own display, was the Nimbus 5001, the newest broom on the market. It boasted higher speeds, easier steering, comfier seating and every other detail that promised he'd be that much better at everything involving flying.
He looked around then and walked over, placing his hand on the handle and running his fingers over the engraving of the name. It was perfect, and James picked it up, noting that it was surprisingly light-weight for a broom. "I think this might be it," he told Brett, grinning.

Brett chuckled. Did that mean he wanted to kiss her more? That could just be a guy thing, but maybe it was something having to do with her. Right? A girl could dream a little. She grabbed his hand and followed him over to the display of the newest nimbus. It was beautiful and looked light and strong. He picked it up and with her free hand she stroked the wood finish. "Its gorgeous." She concluded. Brett wished she could afford a broom like that, it was her dream to be a professional player one day.
They went over to the counter to pay. she slipped off the gloves and put them on the counter before fishing in her pocket for some money. She had just enough and slapped her final knut on the counter with an "Aha!" She had never talked money with james, and she tried to avoid it, he didn't want him to feel like he had to take care of her... that was so realtionship-y. It made her nervous at the thought. James wasn't the type for anything serious, and she didn't need to be. But she realized she was suddenly caring what he thought and did. How many other friends with benefits did he have?
She took her little bag with the gloves and moved aside for him to pay for his gorgeous new broomstick... "I'm so jealous." She said. But seeing an opportunity to flirt, she leaned in close to his ear and said, "It'll get to be ridden by you too." Brett laughed lightly, pulling back so he could pay.

Brett was staring at the broom as he brought it over to the register and paid, going as far as to say she was jealous. He shrugged, grinning as he ran his fingers over the handle, having gotten his change and put the coins in his pocket. "Get a new one then," he suggested, oblivious to the fact that not everyone had the amount of money his family had. He'd been told a few times about his father's childhood and how he had no money to his name, but in his own life, he'd never had any problems with money. Whatever he needed, he received from his parents, and he got enough of an allowance to buy most of the things he wanted. The idea that not everyone was so lucky never crossed his mind.
But he did realize that that suggestion probably wasn't enough, as this newest broom was the most expensive available currently. "I'll let you try it out, if you want," he added, grinning at her and stepping back from the counter. The broom was wrapped at that point, and he put it over his shoulder casually. It was then that she whispered in his ear, and his grin only widened.
"You have first priority, of course," he insisted, winking at her. He then turned to the door, suddenly hungry. "Ice cream?"

Brett chuckled when he told her to just buy one and rubbed the back of her neck a little uncomfortable. Brett didn't often get flustered, but for some reason she was worried what james would say if he knew she didn't have money to spend on any new brooms. She made sure nothing happened to hers, without Quidditch she was sure she would not only explode, but die. James didn't have to know that though of course.
"I'd love to, after you get to check it out of course, just don't run into any trees this time." She said with a laugh. Brett was dying to try it out and was rather excited about the proposition. Though it would spoil her, and she'd hate her own broom for a while...worth it.
Brett grinned and elbowed him lightly when he said she was first priority. "I should hope so, I am a person," She joked. But she did realize she hoped she mattered more to him emotionally than a broom did...."Ice cream sounds amazing... do you mind paying for me? I'd pay you back, I just don't have anything else on me... well I may have a knut or two..." Brett stuffed her hand in her pocket again and pulled out, sure enough, two knuts. The gloves were a little more than she anticipated.

Brett made the quip about running into trees, and James laughed and shrugged. "No promises," he told her. After all, he was rather easily distracted, and trees could be easily missed, apparently. He also had a thing for pushing his limits and testing himself while flying, which normally ended up in disaster, probably because in the back of his mind, he knew he could always get another broom. They were just material objects, and his family's money was practically endless.
So when she asked him to pay, he nodded, slinging an arm over her shoulder. "Sure, no problem. No need to pay me back — my treat." Ice cream didn't cost much, after all, and he would do the same for any friend. So with that, he led her out the door and onto the street.
ooc: There's no board for Florean's, so I figure we can just continue in this thread?

ooc- whoops. so many boards >< yeah we'll just continue here
Brett shook her head lightly. Oh James. He did have a nasty habit for banging into things... Like when they first got together he hit his head several times. It was really a wonder he could still function at all. Or maybe he had just been super smart as a child and this was the end result of lots of lost brain cells? Possible.
"Thanks." She said with a smile when he agreed to make it his treat and slung his arm around her. It was nice, and she felt safe. Brett was starting to get weirded out by the feelings though and was quiet as they walked over to the ice cream place. It was pretty quiet, which was nice, and she ordered a chocolate cone with sprinkles in the shape of quidditch balls. They were pretty fabulous, it felt super powerful to lick a bludger and a snitch in one go.
