Nessie stared at the empty street with obvious confusion. Everything seemed so bloody normal! A few people milled about, and none of them even looked strangely at her and Noah. Granted, they weren't exactly doing anything to draw attention to themselves. It wasn't as if they were waving wands around or wearing robes and pointy hats. Even so, though, there was a certain mechanical quality to the movements of the people around them, and Nessie recognized it. It was the same way she'd gone through life when she'd first recognized that she had feelings for Liam. It was as if they'd simply decided to shut down their logical selves in favor of moving through life on autopilot.
Shaking her head, Nessie turned her attention to Noah. "I don't think this is normal," she told him, appalled by the general quiet nature of the street. Any other time she'd visited muggle London, there had been tourists milling about, children screaming and playing, and the general chatter that populated any urban area. The way that things seemed to be moving in slow motion and low volume made her uneasy, and Nessie found herself wishing she had a hand to hold. But Noah's hand, as far as she knew, was still very much off limits, and she wasn't planning on letting things get awkward today.
"C'mon," she instructed, dragging him toward the corner that most of the people were standing on. Maybe if they actually talked to some of the muggles, they'd get a better feel for what was going on.

OUTFIT
Noah and Nessie had met up at the castle and snuck out to muggle London. It felt strange, he never so blatantly broke the rules and such, but it was fun and exciting. He wished June would do this sort of thing with him, she never would do anything like this. The only rule she broke was having sex in the prefect baths-- granted that was a pretty great rule to break.
They got there without an issue and soon they were standing on the street, looking around. Nessie was right, it was quiet for London. Could the ministry have erased so many memories that people just wandered quietly? Did that many people go mad? "Yeah, weird." he agreed.
Next thing he knew, she was pulling him by his sleeve over to a group of muggles. It was good they were both up on what was going on nowadays, otherwise they'd have been in real trouble making small talk. As it was, they could do just fine. Though, they looked a bit funny wandering around and talking to people like detectives. They needed a cover story or something.
"Play along," Noah prompted as he threw and arm over Nessie's shoulders as they walked up to the group of similarly aged people who looked a little more relaxed and chill. "'ey, any of you know a good place a bloke can take his girl to buy something pretty?" Noah gave her shoulders a bit of a squeeze. "I was hearing things about this great mall, but someone told me it was closed. Who closes a mall on the weekend? You'd think the queues would be 'round the block."

Truthfully, Nessie hadn't bothered to consider the idea that the two of them barging around questioning people was going to look odd. So it was lucky that Noah came up with the idea of a cover story. Even luckier that his cover story involved putting his arm around her. Nessie settled against him comfortably as if this was the sort of thing she did all the time. When he asked the people they'd approached where he could buy his girl something pretty, Nessie actually blushed. She wasn't used to the idea that guys actually did things like that for their girlfriends. It took her a moment to remember that she wasn't actually his girlfriend and he wasn't actually looking to buy her something, and Nessie found herself blushing all over again. Lucky for her, Noah was able to keep his composure and easily turned the conversation toward the incident at the mall.
Nessie widened her eyes and looked curiously at the people, but she didn't bother trying to say anything. She knew she was a terrible liar, and she didn't want to mess up the line of conversation Noah had already opened. The muggles looked at each other, and Nessie noticed a slightly hazy look about their eyes. Eventually, one of them managed to come up with some sort of explanation. "I heard there was some sort of fire or something," they explained. "There's a place around the corner," another one offered. Nessie frowned. "A fire?" she asked. That wasn't even close to the truth, but she supposed it was a good enough reason to close a mall. "D'you know who started it?"
The muggles glanced at one another and there was some quiet chatter as the hazy look returned to their eyes and they tried to recall information. But they never actually got to answer because a moment later, purple sparks began to shoot out from an alleyway. "Bloody hell," Nessie muttered, her eyes immediately fixing on the scene that was starting to unfold. Surely the teenagers who had attacked the mall weren't stupid enough to stage another riot already.

Nessie didn't protest and soon enough they had these muggles who looked like they might be high, talking about a supposed fire. maybe magical fire had taken hold? Worth checking out, right? He thanked them and started to move away at a slow pace toward the corner they had indicated to go around...
But then Nessie spoke and he followed her eye line over to an alley, out of which shot some purple sparks. Shit, more magical ner-do-wells? Noah wanted to run over and stop whatever was happening but he didn't want to look too weird in case the muggles were still watching them.
A loud boom was heard from the alley and a mass of people started pouring out of it, as well as nearby buildings. Several were brandishing wands. Another riot? And so close to the last one? Were these idiots trying to blow up this section of London. "What the--"
Noah let go of Nessie and then grabbed her hand, more to keep them together than anything as people started to move. He pulled her to the closest wall so they could watch from a reasonable distance. he could see part of the mall, and sure enough, parts looked burned. But that could have been the ministry covering up.
