If there was one place she could go without thinking about getting laid, it was the astronomy tower. This not sleeping around thing was getting harder by the day, and sometimes Nessie found herself wondering if it was even worth it. Liking someone was excessively complicated. Sleeping with them was so much easier. But it didn't seem that her stupid emotions were going to turn themselves off anytime soon. So, she'd headed for the towers. She could basically guarantee that anyone who spent their free time up here wasn't someone she'd be even remotely interested in sleeping with. Besides, as much as she liked attention, she kind of felt like being alone. She'd even dragged along a pack of cigarettes for the occasion.
The awkward thing about these towers was that there was never really a corner to tuck yourself into. The walls were rounded. It made her feel just a little bit crazy. Nessie chose a spot next to the window and sat on the floor. She wasn't quite sure if she ought to sit on the edge of the window or not. She was becoming increasingly bad at paying attention to details, and she didn't want to risk falling. It was a high tower. She'd most definitely die.
Lighting up a cigarette, Nessie rested her head against the curved wall and stared out the window, debating whether she was actually enjoying the silence.

November wasn't a fan of pretty much anything, as such, she spent a fair amount of time wandering and lurking in corners. People were frightfully annoying most Of the time but they were rather fun to watch as a group. However, after a day of classes, she wasn't in the mood to even laugh at people as they fell down stairs or anything. November went up to the astronomy tower, it was a good empty place generally and dark later in the day.
However, she soon discovered she wasn't alone. Nessie, the hot tempered slut gryffindor was here, holding a strange little thing that smoked out of one end. November sighed. "must you infect every corner of this castle?" she sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. First Nessie took the boys, now the towers too?
But Nessie was known to be grumpy and November liked grumpy. She sat down on the other side of the window casually and looked outside as if nothing she might have said was amiss.

She had just decided that, while being left alone had the potential to be nice, being surrounded by echoes and shadows wasn't really all that exciting. Nessie wasn't good at being bored. So she wasn't as miffed as she might have been to see November slink into the room. Technically, they weren't friends. Nessie wasn't sure November actually had any friends. But Nessie didn't hate the girl, either. She had too much fun fighting with her to really dislike her.
Rolling her eyes in response to November's greeting, Ness let out a short laugh. "Didn't you notice? There aren't any corners here," she retorted, sliding the carton of cigarettes across the floor toward November. "Don't sit so close. You might catch my cancer," she warned, smirking just a bit. She didn't have cancer, of course. Not yet, anyway. But there was no harm in joking about it. It was easier than accepting the possibility that her current behaviors could slowly kill her.

As it turned out, Nessie was in fact correct, these rooms had no corners. November had no retort and so she let it slide. Nessie had a reputation like hers, only more sexy, and so November deemed her a worthy winner against her; even if Nessie was a whore. November was pretty sure of her own dominance over the student body.
Nessie then passed her a packet of the smoke sticks and made some comment about cancer... Whatever that was. November gave her counterpart an odd look. "what?" she asked, arching and eyebrow. "I have no idea what you're talking about." leve it to Nessie to one up her in a joke...

She'd been fascinated with muggles and all things related to them for long enough that Nessie sometimes forgot that many of her fellow students had no idea what she was talking about half the time. Rolling her eyes, she shook her head and let out a chuckle. Of course November would be clueless about both cancer and cigarettes. "Of course you don't," Nessie told her, not bothering to explain that cigarettes were a muggle concept and that cancer, while a rarity in the magical world, was still a possibility that was strongly linked with smoking.
Taking a long pull on her cigarette, Nessie let the smoke curl out of the side of her mouth so that it would waft in November's direction. "Why the bloody hell are you lurking here anyway?" she asked, not really caring. She just didn't want November to leave. Being with her was almost like being alone. Knowing someone didn't care about her life had a way of making Nessie feel just a bit better. It meant she'd never have to talk about the things she didn't want to but she didn't have to completely forgo social interactions, either.

November didn't like her retort but she smirked lightly. Nessie had style, she'd give her that. She sniffed the air once and decided that this, like other muggle things, should be given a huge berth on principle. And on account of whatever cancer was... She slid the container back to Nessie, the cardboard scratching slightly on the uneven stone floor.
"Why are you lurking here?" She retorted simply, looking at her fingernails as if the conversation didn't interest her. November didn't know how to look interested in anything, for she rarely was. November gave everything a wide berth and didn't much care for anything. So when a rare interest sparked in her, she didn't know how to handle it.
Nessie was typical, but she was a pureblood, and she had intrigue. In her way. "Don't you have friends?" Nessie usually had that ridiculous redhead with her at least.

She hadn't actually expected an answer from the girl, so Nessie just smirked when November turned the question back to her. "I wasn't lurking," she replied coolly. "I was in plain sight. And I'd heard this place had the best view. So I thought I'd check it out." It was a fair enough excuse, though it would have been more plausible if Nessie had been facing the window as opposed to the open expanse of the room. But she was fairly certain November wouldn't care enough to call her out on it. And even if she did, it wouldn't make a difference.
November's next question wasn't one she'd expected, and she let out a laugh in response. Why in God's name would November care whether or not she had friends? "I have friends when I want them," she replied, shaking her head as if this was the most obvious thing in the world. "And right now, I don't want them." It was the closest thing to the truth Nessie could remember sharing with November, but somehow it didn't feel awkward. "Too bad you don't have any friends," she added. "I could really stand for you to disappear right now." She didn't mean it, really. But given their relationship, it seemed like a natural enough comment. Besides, Nessie really had come up here looking to be alone, even if she didn't particularly mind November's company.
She finished her cigarette and watched the last of the smoke curl toward the ceiling before reaching for another one. She lit it and stuck it between her lips. "Sometimes muggles have the greatest ideas," she mumbled, not bothering to think about the fact that November would disagree with her. It seemed like most people did these days, so it wouldn't be terribly shocking if she didn't appreciate the idea that muggles could do anything brilliant.

November had a slew of comments to offer. Like, with view of what, or those fire sticks don't count as friends, or your "friends" put you in a time out? or something along those lines. Nessie was good at faking it, and November couldn't help but admire that about her. If Nessie really had friends, someone would be looking for her, bothering her, not giving her space. Friends were bothersome in her opinion, and if you had them, you didn't get time alone. November didn't need friends, she liked her peace.
However, Nessie reached for another funny stick, lit it on fire and said muggles could do cool things.
November was pureblood though and through, and she had no patience for muggle tolerance, much less respect. "You must be kidding me," She spat. The Sorins were a pureblood family after all, so she was also a blood traitor. Muggles were the inferior beings, if Wizards didn't have it, then you didn't need it. Plain and simple. These cancer sticks hardly seemed like a great invention.
