It was typical for a Ravenclaw to be in the library, stereotypical actually. Colton could list a few 'Claws off of the top of his head that avoided the library unless it was time for exams. Though usually the library was always full of people during exams, it was just a general thing. Colton was in the library looking for reading material. He was bored so what better to do than read.
There was probably a number of different things to do, like Quidditch but reading seemed safer. Besides, it wasn't as if Colton owned a broom either. He didn't see the point of having a broom if he couldn't play Quidditch.
The dark haired male was facing the bookshelf. His dark eyes scanning the spines of the books seeing if any of the titles would catch his eye, hardly any of them did. When one did catch his eye, the first paragraph of the book didn't seem interesting enough.
Colton decided to take a step back, to see higher up the bookshelf. Upon taking a step back, Colton's back bumped into someone. Quickly, he turned his head to see who he had bumped into.
"Oh," He started. "I'm sorry about that."

Brett hated the library, as a general rule. They were quiet and stuffy, and full of Ravenclaws that would shush you if you got over excited about anything. Granted, she found Nessie in here a few days ago and decided she should keep them as far away as possible.
However, her care of magical creatures professor had another idea and assigned a big paper, which of course, Brett had procrastinated on. Now she was in the library on her tip toes, trying to read the titles of books on the various shelves. They were not really short person friendly. Not like libraries were really ever friendly. It was probably something they designed into the layout, uncomfortableness.
It was then that some guy backed into her and promptly apologized. probably a Hufflepuff... Brett turned around, surprised to see he was in fact a Ravenclaw. she felt bad for mentally bad mouthing them earlier. "Oh, its whatever." Brett nodded, her bright hair bobbing around her face.

"Oh, it's whatever."
Colton mentally cringed at that sentence. He wasn't particularly fond of how the sentence was structured, but he wasn't about to correct a stranger. Colton watched the female's head bob up and down, nodding.
Red hair, she was a ginger. By the look of her attitude and outfit, she was a Gryffindor obviously. She was too nice for a Slytherin and her hair just screamed Gryffindor in a general. Colton didn't bother meeting her gaze. He was too busy studying her body language.
She was shocked, surprised even. Colton wasn't a mind reader, but he could guess. He was nice and because of that, she probably assumed he was a Hufflepuff. He knew from a bit of experience with Gryffindors that they weren't the smartest bunch around; most of them were probably stupidly brave and assuming. They were probably worst than Slytherins because at least they were honest with their feelings of dislike, hate and judgement.
Even so, Colton nodded at the girl.
"Of course," He said.
Awkward silence ensured, he wasn't feeling particularly talkative today but he may as well try and get in some decent conversation.
"Colton Jameson, sixth year Ravenclaw student, and you are?." He introduced, holding his hand out for a handshake.

Like most people, he noted her hair first. Brett liked that, it worked for her so much better blinding red than her natural brown. She could only laugh at people who thought this color was naturally occurring. He was rather stiff, and Brett thought that was sad. he was young, reasonably good looking at talking to a cute (by most accounts) girl.
His introduction and was very formal and Brett chuckled, hearing a few shhhs from the next row of books over. She rolled her eyes at the sound and took his hand and copied his introduction. "Brett DuPont, sixth year Gryffindor student." She wasn't trying to make fun of him, she was just easy going and saw the potential for humor almost everywhere.
"Could you possibly reach that book for me?" She point pointing behind her at a row just over her head. "Unseen Creatures of the Air, that one with the light blue spine..." Brett directed, assuming he would help a girl in need.

She chuckled, probably at how stiff he was being. He was naturally stiff around those he didn’t feel comfortable with though. He couldn’t be like every Gryffindor out there, relaxed and easy-going. He was a Ravenclaw. He was to live up to the name of intelligence that Ravenclaws were entitled to. Gryffindors had it easy, they just had to be stupid and rush into things without thinking. They probably had it the easiest out of all the Houses. Stupidly brave, reckless and rash, that was what Colton classified ever Gryffindor as.
She shook his hand and introduced herself.
"Brett DuPont, sixth year Gryffindor student."
Gryffindor, he was correct per usual of course. There was no surprise behind that. They were in the same year, how odd. As far as he could remember, Colton didn’t recognize her. Maybe it was the fact all the Gryffindors started to blend together after a while, just like all the other faces in the other two houses. The students of Ravenclaw were the only faces Colton bothered to remember as they were the important students.
"Pleasure to meet you Brett." Colton said.
He was sure Brett was a male name. Parents these days seemed to have a thing for giving guys girl names and girls guy names though so he figured it'd be common enough to encounter a person with a name that fell into that circumstance.
"Could you possibly reach that book for me?" She point pointing behind her at a row just over her head. "Unseen Creatures of the Air, that one with the light blue spine..."
Colton nodded at her request. It was the polite thing to do after all. He reached up and plucked the light blue book from its spot on the shelf. He held it out to her, as if offering it to her, like he was going to take it from her grip at the last minute.
Which was something he wasn’t actually going to do, he was too polite for that.
"This one is the correct book right?" He asked, making sure he picked the correct book.

Brett had decided that Colton already didn't like her. He was looking at her as if she had cooties that he could catch. As if she were stupid and useless. Ravenclaws could be ridiculously uppity sometimes. Brett didn't waste her time being offended though. She really didn't care what he thought of her if he was going to judge her without knowing her.
He did get the book for her though. Brett offered him a smile. "Yes thanks. I have a big paper to write, gotta scramble for sources" She took the book from him gingerly and shrugged. "You know how it is." Or maybe Ravenclaws didn't actually have a hard time with homework and already knew everything.... She liked the witty Ravenclaws, they at least knew how to have fun.
Brett held the book at her side, unsure if she could just leave or if she was going to try to prove to this guy that he was wrong about her.

"Yes thanks. I have a big paper to write, gotta scramble for sources" She smilied at him, and he gave her a half-smile back. Smiling wasn't a strong point for Colton, but he tried at least.
A paper, of course. Why else would a Gryffindor be in the library? It was a rare sight to see one inside the library. They were often out in the fresh air, where Colton usually avoided to go. He wasn't a big fan of the great outdoors.
"You know how it is."
Colton let out a little 'ha', "Yeah, I do sometimes. Not always, but sometimes."
Maybe he had judged her too fast, she seemed like a nice enough person. Then again, there were actors in the world for a reason. To fool people into thinking they were another person. Though, that was more of a Slytherin thing to do. Maybe he'd be nice to her, just this once and see what would happen.
"If you need help, you can ask me almost anything." He offered.
After all, there was not a bigger book nerd than Colton. He spent his days reading when he skipped class, instead of out and about like a true teenager.

He could really learn to play along a little for someone so polite. He just needed to nod a little and it would be over, but now he had to try to sound better than her by pointing out that only sometimes homework was suffocating and hard to get done. This Colton fellow was turning into a stereotype.
Brett raised her eyebrow. Almost anything? he was just begging her to tow the line. But really, she didn't know him from Adam and it was silly to assume she'd really be asking him for anything--besides maybe another book. Brett just nodded. "I'm good, but I'll remember that." Mostly she could see her handing him something in the hallway for her, maybe a prank notebook or something, loosen him up a little. But that was really James' bag.

"I'm good, but I'll remember that."
Colton begged to god she would forget, or they'd never see each other again. He preferred if both were to happen. He was sure he wouldn't enjoy owing her anything. She was a Gryffindor after all. Gryffindor was the house of troublemakers and idiots.
And that's all he cared to know.
Plus, James Potter was in that house too. Colton was sure that wasn't a good thing either. Who knows what kind of insane plots the Gryffindor students came up with? Colton didn't for sure, he didn't really care either. Unless he got dragged into one, then he'd be in deep shit. Really, deep shit actually, he never liked going along with people's plots and schemes if he didn't approve of them.
"I'll be returning to my book search now." Colton said.
The dark haired male turned on his heel to face the opposing booksherlf as he was doing earlier. His eyes once again, skimming the spines of the books.
