«dislikes» missing his wife, the fact that Arabella looks so much like her mother (it makes him miss her more), being lonely, being afraid, storms, illnesses, doctors, students who don't put forth effort
«five words»
[li] "PROUD" He's not proud in the sense that he flaunts himself or anything. But he is proud to the effect that he rarely admits when he needs help and certainly won't ask for it if he can help it.
[/li][li] "NURTURING" He's had to fill the roles of both mother and father for Arabella for so long that he has learned to take on the nurturing responsibility that is usually more prevalent in mothers. He is encouraging not only to his daughter but also to his students. Sometimes it raises questions about his sexuality, but he's secure in that and doesn't really mind.
[/li][li] "STUBBORN" He really has to be to be able to take care of a little girl without help and hold down a teaching job.
[/li][li] "INTELLIGENT" He is very well educated and has a tendency sometimes to forget that other people aren't. Sometimes he says things that don't make sense and has to go back and explain himself. He tends to view every experience as an opportunity to either teach or learn.
[/li][li] "LONELY" As much as he hates to admit it, Charlie is better with someone than he is alone. He doesn't want to make things difficult for Arabella, and he misses his wife very much, but he is quite lonely, and it shows in a lot of ways.

«history» Charles was a pretty unremarkable kid. He did well enough in school and rarely got in trouble. He tried his hand at quidditch, but was unremarkable at it and didn't stick with it. The only really remarkable thing he did was become a prefect, which is how he met his wife, Amelie. She was a Ravenclaw prefect while he was a Hufflepuff prefect, and they occasionally did rounds together. It was love at first sight on his part, but he was pretty sure she'd taken some time to get attached. Not that it mattered. It took him almost a year to get up the nerve to ask her out. When he finally did, though, he was glad for it. They went on a picnic, and he stored every second of the evening in his memory just in case it never happened again.
The two were married the year they both turned twenty, and they decided that for practical reasons, it was best to pursue careers before they started a family. Initially, Charlie worked a variety of odd jobs before finally becoming a writer for the Daily Prophet. He enjoyed the work, but it didn't pay much, and just a couple of years later, his wife was pregnant! He quickly set about finding a better position and was soon hired at Hogwarts as the Transfiguration professor. It was a good thing, too, because their finances only became shakier. Shortly after Arabella was born, Charles learned that even the magical are not immune to disease, and his wife was diagnosed with a fatal form of cancer. She lived only a few more months before he was left to parent his daughter alone.
Charles took a brief leave from Hogwarts to settle matters for his daughter's care. As soon as he could, he returned to the school where he has remained. He has made special arrangements with the school that allow him to live off campus with his daughter and commute to work each day so long as he is able to apparate in in the event of an emergency.
